Ballast Point

My newest painting, Ballast Point. The painting portrays the closing event of a Federal raid to destroy Tampa’s Captain McKay’s shipyard north of Tampa on the Hillsborough river. After burning two of McKay’s blockade runners the Federal sailors marched south down the Tampa peninsula on October 18, 1863.

Harassed all the way to their rendezvous on Tampa Bay at Ballast Point to meet up with their ship a sharp skirmish occurred with loss of life for both sides. A minor event in the American Civil War but a big event to the men involved.
